SACRED TABLE COMMUNITY GARDEN END OF YEAR REPORT AND INVITATION TO GIVE TO THE CAUSE OF FOOD SECURITY

Sacred Table Community Garden celebrates a beautiful first year, and we invite you to join us for the 2022 season.

As we began our journey together in late March 2021, it was evident that we joined the community of urban farmers already doing fantastic work on the West side of Columbus, Ohio. Not only were we able to clear, plant, grow, harvest, and distribute a wide variety of vegetables and herbs to a local Free Store and a Yemeni restaurant, we also learned about food insecurity, food equity, and food justice. We have an excellent team of growers and harvesters, three seminary interns, three master gardeners, and the extraordinary gifts of financial supporters. During our first year, we harvested over 800 pounds of produce and established partnerships with Episcopal, Methodist, and several interfaith communities, especially the Bahai community of Columbus.

As an Episcopal priest, I celebrate the sacredness of our work that has invited a diverse expression of God’s love joined together to serve the greater good. We encountered a great hunger not only for healthy food but also for belonging and hope. As we enter the wintertime, Sacred Table grows by listening, learning, and teaching. We will explore topics such as better food distribution, preparation, and education. We want to ask questions such as, “How can we get healthy food to those in greatest need? How can we teach food preparation and cooking to those who need to prepare healthy produce? How can we encourage and teach others how to grow their food? How can we worship and pray out of such a food movement?” Join us in this movement of God’s love. Let this end-of-year letter of celebration and opportunity draw you into this garden journey with us.

We invite you to become a financial supporter as we plan our budget for the 2022 growing season. We are looking to expand our garden to grow and serve more effectively and consider being a part of this movement of God’s love. Would you consider giving a one-time gift or becoming a monthly donor?

As we listen, learn, and love community gardening, we will share our stories with you through a monthly newsletter. If you live in the Columbus area, join our garden team as we anticipate gathering for gardening in late March 2022.

Along with this invitation to financially support Sacred Table Community Garden, please join us wherever you are through our “Friendraiser” Sacred Table Extension.

AS AN EXTENSION

What is Sacred Table Community Garden Extension?

If you cannot physically come to the garden in 2022 nor support us financially, we ask you to join us by growing food wherever you are and sharing your produce with a local pantry, a family, or someone in need. You can grow your food in a small pot, a garden big or small. You can produce a simple tomato plant or a small offering of peppers and herbs—your choice. We have master gardeners on standby who can guide your growth if needed.  As you grow, harvest, and deliver your offerings, we ask you to share the story of your sacred connections with us in pictures and words. Weigh your offerings and share it with us so that we can include the weight with our total offerings. We will celebrate you as a Sacred Table Extension!
